Soak beans overnight if desired, then drain
Add beans to the Instant Pot
Add 6 to 8 cups water or broth
Add salt if desired
Add aromatics if desired, such as onion, garlic, or bay leaf
Close the lid and set the valve to sealing
Cook on High Pressure for 25 to 30 minutes for unsoaked beans
Cook on High Pressure for 8 to 10 minutes for soaked beans
Let pressure release naturally for 15 to 20 minutes
Carefully quick release any remaining pressure
Open the lid and stir the beans
Drain or season as needed before serving
