Rinse the red beans under cold water
Sort out any debris or damaged beans
Soak the beans in water for 8 to 12 hours or overnight
Drain and rinse the soaked beans
Place the beans in a pot and cover with fresh water
Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer
Cook until the beans are tender, adding water as needed
Season after the beans are mostly cooked
Drain any excess liquid if needed
Use the cooked beans in your recipe
