Rinse dried butter beans and remove any debris
Soak the beans in plenty of water for 8 to 12 hours
Drain and rinse the soaked beans
Place the beans in a pot and cover with fresh water
Bring to a boil over medium-high heat
Reduce to a gentle simmer
Skim off any foam that rises to the surface
Add salt only after the beans begin to soften
Simmer until tender, about 45 to 90 minutes depending on age and size
Check occasionally and add more water if needed
Drain the beans when cooked to your desired texture
Season or use in your recipe as needed
