Pat chicken breasts dry with paper towels
Pound to even thickness if needed
Season both sides with salt, pepper, and any desired spices
Heat a skillet over medium to medium-high heat
Add enough oil to coat the bottom of the skillet
Let the oil heat until shimmering
Place chicken breasts in the skillet without overcrowding
Cook undisturbed for 5 to 7 minutes
Flip the chicken breasts
Cook the other side for 5 to 7 minutes
Reduce heat if the outside is browning too quickly
Cook until the internal temperature reaches 165°F
Remove chicken from the skillet
Let rest for 5 minutes before slicing
