Move away from the skunk and get to fresh air
Remove and seal contaminated clothing in a plastic bag
Wash skin with a mixture of 1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda, and 1 teaspoon dish soap
Rinse skin thoroughly with water after washing
Wash hair with the same mixture, avoiding eyes and mouth
Repeat the wash if needed, but do not store the mixture in a closed container
Wash clothes separately with detergent and baking soda
Add white vinegar to the laundry rinse if needed
Air out shoes, bags, and other washable items
Clean hard surfaces with a vinegar and water solution
Use an enzymatic odor remover on fabrics and upholstery
Sprinkle baking soda on carpets and vacuum after several hours
Bathe pets with skunk odor shampoo or the peroxide-baking soda-dish soap mix if safe for the pet
Rinse pets well and keep the solution out of their eyes, nose, and mouth
Call a veterinarian if the pet was sprayed near the face or seems unwell
Ventilate the area with open windows and fans
Replace or deep-clean HVAC filters if odor spread indoors
Seek medical help if the spray got into eyes or caused breathing trouble
