Wear gloves and a mask when handling stinkhorns
Remove the fungus as soon as it appears
Pull up the fruiting body and surrounding egg-like structures
Bag all removed material immediately
Dispose of it in sealed trash, not compost
Rake away mulch, wood chips, or decaying debris around the area
Replace heavily infested mulch with fresh material
Reduce excess moisture by improving drainage
Water less frequently and only when needed
Increase sunlight and airflow in the affected area
Remove buried wood, roots, or other decaying organic matter if possible
Keep the area clean of leaf litter and rotting plant material
Apply a fungicide only if specifically labeled for stinkhorns
Repeat removal promptly if new fruiting bodies appear
Monitor the area regularly during warm, wet periods
