Turn off the power at the circuit breaker
Verify the power is off with a voltage tester
Remove the old fixture
Support the fixture while disconnecting the wires
Disconnect the wire connectors
Remove the mounting bracket if replacing it
Install the new mounting bracket
Connect the fixture wires to the house wires
Match black to black, white to white, and ground to ground
Secure the wire connections with wire nuts
Tuck the wires into the electrical box
Attach the new fixture to the mounting bracket
Install the bulbs if needed
Attach the shade, cover, or decorative parts
Restore power at the breaker
Test the new light fixture
