How to Jumpstart a Car Battery with Cables?

Park the working car close enough for the jumper cables to reach, but do not let the vehicles touch

Turn off both cars, remove the keys, and set the parking brakes

Open both hoods and locate the batteries

Identify the positive terminal marked with a plus sign or red cover

Identify the negative terminal marked with a minus sign or black cover

Connect one red clamp to the dead battery’s positive terminal

Connect the other red clamp to the working battery’s positive terminal

Connect one black clamp to the working battery’s negative terminal

Connect the other black clamp to an unpainted metal ground on the dead car, away from the battery

Start the working car and let it run for a few minutes

Try starting the dead car

If the dead car starts, keep it running

Remove the cables in reverse order

Let the jumped car run for at least 15 to 30 minutes

Drive the car to help recharge the battery

Seek professional help if the car does not start after a few attempts
