Gather a plain white cotton shirt, fabric dye, rubber bands, gloves, a plastic cover, and squeeze bottles or bowls
Wash the shirt first to remove any finishes
Dampen the shirt slightly
Choose a tie-dye pattern and twist, fold, or scrunch the shirt accordingly
Secure the shirt tightly with rubber bands
Put on gloves
Mix the dye according to the package directions
Apply dye to different sections of the shirt
Flip the shirt and dye the other side
Place the shirt in a plastic bag or wrap it to keep it moist
Let the dye set for the recommended time
Rinse the shirt under cold water until the water runs mostly clear
Remove the rubber bands
Wash the shirt separately in cold water
Dry the shirt according to the fabric care instructions
