Wash the potatoes
Peel the potatoes if desired
Cut larger potatoes into even pieces
Place the potatoes in a pot
Cover the potatoes with cold water
Add salt if desired
Bring the water to a boil
Reduce to a simmer
Cook until the potatoes are tender
Drain the water
Serve or use as desired
