The swelling has gone down noticeably
The center looks flat or slightly sunken
No pus, blood, or fluid is coming out
The skin around it is no longer tight or shiny
Pain and tenderness have reduced a lot
The redness around it is fading
The area feels softer and less warm
The opening, if present, is no longer draining when gently pressed
A scab or dry crust has formed over the spot
There is no new buildup of fluid over several hours
