Gather ingredients: eggs, salt, pepper, butter or oil
Optional add-ins: cheese, ham, mushrooms, spinach, onions, tomatoes, herbs
Crack eggs into a bowl
Add salt and pepper
Whisk eggs until evenly combined
Heat a nonstick skillet over medium-low heat
Add butter or oil and let it melt and coat the pan
Pour in the eggs
Cook gently, tilting the pan and stirring lightly until the edges set
Add fillings to one half of the omelette (if using)
Fold the omelette in half
Cook 30–60 seconds more until the center is set to your liking
Slide onto a plate and serve immediately
