Wash cucumbers thoroughly
Trim the ends
Slice cucumbers if desired
Sterilize a clean jar
Add dill, garlic, peppercorns, and optional spices to the jar
Pack cucumbers tightly into the jar
Combine vinegar, water, salt, and optional sugar in a pot
Heat the brine until the salt dissolves
Pour the hot brine over the cucumbers
Make sure the cucumbers are fully submerged
Seal the jar
Let it cool to room temperature
Refrigerate for at least 24 hours before eating
Store in the refrigerator for up to several weeks
