Wash the turnips thoroughly
Peel the turnips if desired
Trim off the tops and roots
Slice, dice, or leave whole as needed
Boil in salted water until tender
Drain the turnips well
Mash with butter, salt, and pepper if desired
Roast with oil and seasonings at 400°F until browned and tender
Steam until soft
Sauté with butter or oil until lightly browned
Add to soups or stews and cook until tender
