How To Plug A Tire?

Locate the puncture and mark it

Remove the tire from the wheel if needed for access

Deflate the tire completely

Clean and dry the puncture area

Roughen the puncture area inside the tire (if using an internal patch)

Inspect for cords or damage; replace the tire if cords are exposed or the damage is too large

Use a reamer/knife to prepare the hole (if using a plug)

Apply rubber cement to the prepared hole (if required by the kit)

Insert the plug tool with the plug material into the hole

Push the plug through until the handle is fully seated

Pull the tool out while leaving the plug in place

Trim excess plug material flush with the tire interior/exterior as directed by the kit

Inflate the tire to the vehicle’s specified pressure

Check for leaks by applying soapy water to the repair area

Reinstall the tire on the vehicle if removed

Recheck pressure after a short drive and again later
