If constipated, consider an osmotic laxative (e.g., polyethylene glycol) as directed on the label
If needed, consider a stool softener (e.g., docusate) as directed on the label
If needed, consider a stimulant laxative (e.g., senna or bisacodyl) short-term as directed on the label
If you use laxatives, follow the label and reassess if not improving
If you have diarrhea, stay hydrated and consider oral rehydration as needed
Seek urgent care if you have severe abdominal pain, vomiting, fever, blood in stool, black/tarry stool, or signs of dehydration
Seek medical advice if constipation lasts more than 1–2 weeks, keeps recurring, or you have unexplained weight loss or anemia
