Swallow repeatedly

Chew gum or suck on hard candy
Perform the Valsalva maneuver gently (pinch nose, close mouth, blow gently)
Perform the Toynbee maneuver (pinch nose and swallow)
Try the Frenzel maneuver (close mouth, pinch nose, move tongue to push air)
Use a gentle pressure-equalization earbud or ear pressure valve if available
Take a warm shower or apply a warm compress to the affected ear
Use saline nasal spray
Use a decongestant or nasal steroid if you have nasal congestion/allergies (follow label directions)
If safe for you, use an antihistamine for allergy-related congestion (follow label directions)
Avoid forceful blowing or repeated hard attempts
Stop if you feel sharp pain, dizziness, or worsening symptoms
Seek urgent care if there is severe pain, fluid or blood from the ear, sudden hearing loss, or significant dizziness
Seek medical advice if symptoms last more than 24–48 hours or keep recurring
