Separate the mushrooms into individual clusters
Trim off the tough stem ends
Brush off dirt or debris with a dry brush or paper towel
Rinse quickly under cold water only if needed
Pat dry thoroughly with paper towels
Tear or cut into even-sized pieces
Remove any damaged or discolored parts
Use immediately or store in a paper bag in the refrigerator
