Use clean, sharp, sterilized pruning shears or scissors
Remove dead, yellow, brown, or damaged leaves
Cut spent flower spikes after blooms fade
Trim the flower spike above a node if it is still green and healthy
Cut the spike at the base if it is brown and dry
Remove dead roots during repotting
Trim roots that are mushy, black, or hollow
Avoid cutting healthy green roots
Make cuts close to the base without damaging the plant
Dust cut areas lightly with cinnamon if desired
Prune only when the plant is not actively blooming
Dispose of removed plant material properly
