How to Propagate Lavender Plants?

Take healthy, non-flowering lavender stems in late spring or early summer

Choose softwood or semi-ripe cuttings about 3 to 4 inches long

Cut just below a leaf node with clean, sharp scissors or pruners

Remove leaves from the lower half of each cutting

Dip the cut end in rooting hormone if desired

Fill small pots with a well-draining propagation mix

Make a hole in the mix and insert each cutting

Firm the mix gently around the stem

Water lightly to settle the soil

Cover with a clear plastic dome or bag if needed to retain humidity

Place in bright, indirect light

Keep the mix lightly moist, not wet

Check for roots after a few weeks by gently tugging the cutting

Transplant rooted cuttings into individual pots

Harden off young plants before moving them outdoors

Plant in full sun with well-drained soil

Water sparingly after planting

Propagate by layering by bending a low stem to the ground

Pin a section of stem under soil while keeping the tip exposed

Wait for roots to form, then cut the new plant from the parent

Divide mature plants only if they have multiple woody crowns and can be separated safely
