Park the working vehicle close to the dead vehicle without letting the vehicles touch
Turn off both vehicles and remove the keys
Put both vehicles in park or neutral and set the parking brakes
Open both hoods
Identify the positive battery terminal marked with a plus sign or red cover
Identify the negative battery terminal marked with a minus sign or black cover
Connect one red clamp to the dead battery positive terminal
Connect the other red clamp to the working battery positive terminal
Connect one black clamp to the working battery negative terminal
Connect the other black clamp to an unpainted metal ground on the dead vehicle away from the battery
Start the working vehicle and let it run for a few minutes
Try starting the dead vehicle
Remove the cables in reverse order after the dead vehicle starts
Keep the revived vehicle running to recharge the battery
