Verify the refrigerant type on the vehicle label
Inspect the air conditioning system for visible leaks or damage
Check the compressor, belts, and hoses for proper condition
Connect an A/C manifold gauge set to the service ports
Measure the current system pressure
Start the engine and turn the A/C to maximum cooling
Set the blower to high and open the windows
Attach the refrigerant can or charging equipment to the low-pressure side only
Purge air from the charging hose if required
Add refrigerant slowly in small amounts
Monitor pressure readings while charging
Stop charging when the specified pressure or weight is reached
Do not overfill the system
Disconnect the charging equipment
Replace the service port caps
Check vent temperature and system performance
Inspect again for leaks if cooling is still poor
Use a certified technician if the system is empty or requires repairs
