How To Recharge Car AC?

Verify the AC system is low on refrigerant with a gauge set

Identify the correct refrigerant type from the vehicle label or manual

Gather the proper recharge kit, manifold gauges, and safety gear

Turn off the engine and locate the low-pressure service port

Attach the recharge hose to the low-pressure port only

Start the engine and set the AC to maximum cooling and fan speed

Check the gauge reading before adding refrigerant

Shake the refrigerant can if required by the product instructions

Open the valve and add refrigerant slowly into the low-pressure side

Monitor the gauge and stop when the system reaches the recommended pressure

Avoid overcharging the system

Disconnect the hose and replace the service port cap

Test the AC for cold air output and proper operation

Inspect for leaks if the system loses refrigerant again

Have the system serviced by a professional if cooling does not improve
