Give acetaminophen or ibuprofen as directed by the child’s age and weight
Do not give aspirin to a child
Offer plenty of fluids
Dress the child in light clothing
Keep the room comfortably cool
Let the child rest
Use a lukewarm sponge bath if needed
Check the temperature regularly
Seek urgent medical care if the child is under 3 months old
Seek medical care if the fever lasts more than 3 days
Seek medical care if the child has trouble breathing, seizures, stiff neck, severe pain, rash, dehydration, or unusual sleepiness
Contact a doctor before giving fever medicine if the child has other medical conditions or takes other medicines
