Give the child plenty of fluids
Dress the child in light clothing
Keep the room comfortably cool
Encourage rest
Use a lukewarm sponge bath if needed
Give fever medicine only as directed by a doctor or label
Use the correct dose based on the child’s age and weight
Do not give aspirin to children
Monitor the child’s temperature regularly
Seek medical care if the fever is very high, lasts more than a few days, or the child has trouble breathing, dehydration, confusion, seizures, or severe pain
