Hire a licensed structural engineer to assess the wall and design the replacement support
Obtain all required permits and approvals before any work begins
Verify the wall is load bearing by reviewing framing plans and inspecting joists, beams, and supports
Determine the temporary support plan for the structure above the wall
Install temporary shoring walls or adjustable posts on both sides of the work area
Turn off and disconnect any electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or gas lines in the wall
Remove drywall, trim, insulation, and finishes from the wall
Expose and identify all structural members, utilities, and connections
Cut and remove the wall framing carefully after temporary support is in place
Install the engineered replacement beam or header specified by the structural design
Add required posts, footings, hangers, connectors, and fasteners
Transfer the load gradually from the temporary supports to the new beam
Remove temporary shoring only after the new support is fully installed and inspected
Repair floors, ceilings, walls, and finishes around the opening
Schedule required inspections and obtain final approval from the building authority
