Remove the stopper or drain cover
Insert a drain wrench or drain key into the drain crossbars
Turn counterclockwise to loosen the drain
Lift the drain out once it is loose
If needed, use pliers to grip and remove the drain
Clean the drain opening and threads
Apply penetrating oil if the drain is stuck
Avoid using excessive force
Shut off water supply if needed
