Choose a new location with at least 6 hours of sun and well-draining soil
Water the rose bush deeply 1 to 2 days before moving it
Prune back long canes and remove dead or damaged growth
Dig a wide circle around the bush, keeping as many roots intact as possible
Lift the rose bush carefully from the ground
Prepare the new hole twice as wide as the root ball and deep enough to set the plant at the same level
Mix compost into the removed soil if needed
Place the rose bush in the new hole
Spread the roots out gently
Backfill with soil and firm it lightly
Water thoroughly after planting
Add mulch around the base, keeping it away from the stems
Water regularly for the first several weeks
Avoid fertilizing until new growth appears
