Remove the avocado seed from the fruit and rinse off all flesh
Identify the top and bottom of the seed
Insert three to four toothpicks around the middle of the seed
Suspend the seed over a glass of water with the bottom half submerged
Place the glass in a warm spot with bright, indirect light
Change the water every few days to keep it fresh
Wait for the seed to split and roots to emerge from the bottom
Keep the bottom of the seed in water as roots grow
Transplant into soil when roots are several inches long and a stem has formed
