Put the car in park or neutral and set the parking brake
Turn off all lights, accessories, and electronics
Open the hood and locate the battery terminals
Get jumper cables and a working vehicle or jump starter
Connect the red clamp to the dead battery positive terminal
Connect the other red clamp to the working battery positive terminal
Connect the black clamp to the working battery negative terminal
Connect the other black clamp to an unpainted metal ground on the dead car
Start the working vehicle or turn on the jump starter
Wait a few minutes
Try starting the dead car
If it starts, let it run
Remove the cables in reverse order
Keep the car running or drive it to recharge the battery
If it does not start, check the connections and try again
If it still does not start, call roadside assistance or a mechanic
