Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes
Remove rings or tight items from the finger
Do not pop the blister
Gently wash the area with mild soap and water
Pat dry with a clean cloth
Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly
Cover with a sterile nonstick bandage
Change the dressing daily or if it gets wet or dirty
Keep the finger elevated if swollen
Use over-the-counter pain relief if needed and safe for you
Avoid ice, butter, toothpaste, or ointments with fragrance
Protect the blister from friction or pressure
Seek medical care if the blister is large, very painful, infected, or limits movement
Seek medical care if the burn is deep, white, charred, or caused by chemicals or electricity
Seek medical care if you have diabetes, poor circulation, or a weakened immune system
Seek urgent care if redness spreads, pus appears, fever develops, or pain worsens
