Apply a cold compress for 10–15 minutes at a time
Keep your head elevated
Avoid salty foods
Drink plenty of water
Stop using any new skincare, makeup, or dental products that may have triggered it
Take an antihistamine if swelling is due to an allergic reaction and you can safely use one
Use prescribed medications exactly as directed
Rinse the mouth with warm salt water if swelling is from a dental issue
Avoid rubbing or massaging the swollen area
Seek urgent medical care if you have trouble breathing, throat swelling, fever, severe pain, or rapid worsening
See a doctor if the swelling does not improve within 24 to 48 hours
