Open the ratchet handle fully
Thread the loose strap end through the center slot of the ratchet spool
Pull the strap through until it is snug
Attach the hooks or ends to secure anchor points
Tighten the strap by pumping the ratchet handle back and forth
Stop when the load is firmly secured
Close the ratchet handle completely to lock it
Check that the strap is straight and not twisted
Make sure the load cannot shift during transport
Release the ratchet by opening the handle fully and pulling the release lever if present
Remove the strap from the anchor points
Store the tie down clean and dry
