Drink small sips of water, oral rehydration solution, or clear fluids often
Eat bland foods such as bananas, rice, applesauce, toast, crackers, or plain potatoes
Avoid dairy, greasy foods, spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine, and very sugary drinks
Rest and avoid strenuous activity
Wash hands frequently to prevent spreading infection
Consider over-the-counter loperamide only if you do not have fever or blood in the stool
Consider bismuth subsalicylate if appropriate for you
Stop any new food, supplement, or medication that may be causing it, if advised by a clinician
Seek medical care if diarrhea lasts more than 2 days, is severe, or keeps returning
Seek urgent care if you have signs of dehydration, blood in stool, severe abdominal pain, high fever, or black stools
