Turn off the water supply to the bathtub
Close the drain or place a stopper over it
Remove the handle screws and take off both faucet handles
Remove the escutcheon plates or trim covers if needed
Use the correct wrench or pliers to remove the valve stems or cartridges
Inspect the washers, O-rings, and seals for wear or damage
Replace any worn washers, O-rings, seals, or cartridges
Clean mineral buildup from the valve parts and faucet body
Apply plumber’s grease to moving parts and new seals if needed
Reinstall the valve stems or cartridges
Reattach the escutcheon plates and faucet handles
Turn the water supply back on
Test the faucet for leaks
Tighten fittings slightly if leaking continues
Replace the entire valve assembly if the leak does not stop
