Park on a level surface and let the engine cool
Gather the correct oil filter wrench, drain pan, gloves, and rags
Raise and secure the vehicle if needed
Place the drain pan under the oil filter
Loosen the filter by turning it counterclockwise
Use an oil filter wrench if it is too tight by hand
Move the filter slowly to avoid spilling oil
Remove the filter once it is loose
Check that the old gasket comes off with the filter
Clean the mounting surface before installing a new filter
