If this is an emergency, call emergency services now
Remove the cord immediately if you can do so safely
Support the person’s head and neck
Cut the cord with scissors or a knife if it cannot be loosened quickly
Slide the loop off the neck once it is loose
Check breathing and responsiveness
Start CPR if the person is not breathing and you are trained to do so
Keep the person still and get urgent medical help
Seek immediate medical evaluation even if the person seems okay
