Measure the ceiling and plan drywall sheet layout
Mark ceiling joists or furring strips
Cut drywall sheets to size
Lift the first sheet into position
Fasten drywall to joists with drywall screws
Stagger joints on adjacent sheets
Leave a small gap at walls for expansion
Tape and mud the seams
Apply additional coats of joint compound
Sand the dried compound smooth
Prime and paint the ceiling
