Cool the burn under cool running water for 20 minutes
Remove rings, watches, or tight clothing near the area
Do not pop the blister
Gently wash the area with mild soap and water
Pat the area dry with a clean cloth
Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or aloe vera
Cover with a sterile, nonstick bandage
Change the dressing daily or if it gets wet or dirty
Keep the blister clean and protected from friction
Take over-the-counter pain relief if needed and if safe for you
Avoid ice, butter, toothpaste, or home remedies
Seek medical care if the blister is large, very painful, infected, on the face, hands, feet, genitals, or over a major joint
Seek medical care if the burn is from chemicals, electricity, or is deep or widespread
Seek medical care if you have fever, increasing redness, swelling, pus, or worsening pain
