Walk around for 10–20 minutes
Change positions: lie on your left side, then on your right side
Try knee-to-chest position for 30–60 seconds, repeat a few times
Sip warm water or warm herbal tea (peppermint or ginger)
Use a heating pad or warm compress on the abdomen for 15–20 minutes
Take an over-the-counter antigas product containing simethicone as directed
Use an antacid if you also have heartburn
If constipation is present, increase fluids and consider an OTC stool softener or gentle laxative as directed
Avoid carbonated drinks, chewing gum, and drinking through a straw
Eat smaller meals and eat slowly
If lactose intolerance is suspected, avoid dairy temporarily
If symptoms are severe or persistent, contact a clinician urgently
Seek urgent care if you have severe abdominal pain, vomiting, fever, blood in stool, a swollen hard belly, trouble passing gas or stool, or shortness of breath
