Gather a screwdriver, drill, utility knife, putty knife, and safety glasses
Open the door fully and secure it if needed
Remove the doorknob screws from the interior side
Pull apart the knob or lever assembly
Remove the latch faceplate screws from the door edge
Slide the latch mechanism out of the door
Unscrew the strike plate from the door frame
Remove any deadbolt screws and pull out the deadbolt assembly
Remove hinges if replacing the door hardware completely
Cut through any paint or caulk around the hardware with a utility knife
Pry off stuck trim or plates gently with a putty knife
Remove all remaining screws and hardware pieces
Fill old screw holes if needed after removal
Clean the area before installing new hardware
