How to Replace Coolant Temperature Sensor?

Let the engine cool completely

Disconnect the negative battery cable

Locate the coolant temperature sensor

Place a drain pan under the sensor area

Drain enough coolant to drop below the sensor level

Disconnect the electrical connector from the sensor

Remove any retaining clip, lock, or fastener

Unscrew or pull out the old sensor

Compare the old sensor with the replacement part

Install the new sensor with a new seal or thread sealant if required

Tighten the sensor to the specified torque

Reinstall the retaining clip or fastener

Reconnect the electrical connector

Refill the cooling system with the correct coolant

Bleed air from the cooling system

Reconnect the negative battery cable

Start the engine and check for leaks

Verify the temperature gauge and warning lights operate normally

Top off coolant if needed after the engine cools again
