How to Change CV Axle?

Park on a level surface, set the parking brake, and chock the wheels

Loosen the axle nut before lifting the vehicle

Loosen the wheel lug nuts

Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands

Remove the wheel

Remove the axle nut completely

Remove any cotter pin, castle nut, or retaining hardware from the suspension components

Disconnect the lower ball joint, tie rod end, or strut bolts as needed for access

Push the CV axle inward through the hub

Remove any axle retaining clip or pry the inner CV joint from the transmission or differential

Drain transmission fluid if required

Remove the old CV axle from the vehicle

Compare the new CV axle to the old one

Install the new CV axle into the transmission or differential

Ensure the retaining clip seats fully

Insert the outer CV axle splines into the hub

Reconnect the suspension components

Torque all fasteners to specification

Install a new axle nut and torque it to specification

Reinstall the wheel

Lower the vehicle

Torque the lug nuts to specification

Refill transmission fluid if any was lost

Test drive and check for leaks, noises, and proper operation
