Verify local laws and ownership before removing any catalytic converter
Park the vehicle on a flat surface and let the exhaust cool completely
Disconnect the negative battery terminal
Raise the vehicle securely with a jack and support it with jack stands
Wear safety glasses, gloves, and protective clothing
Locate the catalytic converter in the exhaust system
Spray penetrating oil on rusted bolts and fasteners
Remove any heat shields or underbody covers blocking access
Disconnect oxygen sensor connectors if they prevent removal
Remove the bolts, clamps, or flange nuts securing the converter
Cut the exhaust pipe only if the converter is being replaced and cutting is necessary
Support the exhaust so it does not drop when fasteners are removed
Slide the catalytic converter out of the exhaust system
Inspect gaskets, flanges, and mounting points for damage
Store the removed converter securely if required by law or for recycling
Reinstall any remaining exhaust components and tighten all fasteners to specification
