Apply ice for 15 to 20 minutes several times a day
Use over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen or naproxen if appropriate
Use acetaminophen for pain if NSAIDs are not suitable
Perform gentle range-of-motion exercises as pain improves
Start physical therapy to improve mobility and strengthen the shoulder
Maintain good posture and avoid repetitive shoulder strain
Use a sling only briefly if needed, then resume movement
Consider corticosteroid injection if symptoms persist
Treat any underlying cause such as rotator cuff injury or arthritis
Seek medical care if pain is severe, swelling is significant, or symptoms do not improve
