Start the car and turn on the defroster

Clear snow from the windshield first

Use a plastic scraper for stubborn ice
Pour lukewarm water over the windshield if necessary
Keep the wipers off until the ice is gone
Lift the wiper blades before freezing weather
Use a windshield cover overnight
Prevent refreezing by drying the glass after scraping
