Wash your hands with soap and water.
Check the tampon package for the correct absorbency.
Unwrap the tampon without touching the string.
Find a comfortable position: stand with one foot up, or sit on the toilet, or stand with knees slightly apart.
Hold the tampon by the grip with the string pointing downward.
If using an applicator:
Insert the tampon into the vagina with the rounded tip first.
Use your finger to push the inner tube until the tampon is fully inserted.
Remove the applicator, leaving the string outside.
If using a non-applicator tampon:
Insert the tampon using your finger, aiming slightly toward your lower back.
Push until it feels comfortable and the string remains outside.
If you feel discomfort, stop and adjust the position or use a smaller absorbency.
Wear a pantyliner if you want extra protection.
Change the tampon every 4 to 8 hours.
Do not leave a tampon in for more than 8 hours.
To remove:
Wash your hands.
Pull the string gently until the tampon slides out.
Wrap in toilet paper and throw it in the trash (do not flush).
If the tampon feels stuck or cannot be removed easily, stop and seek help from a healthcare professional.
If you experience severe pain, unusual discharge, fever, or dizziness, remove the tampon and seek medical care immediately.
