Park on level ground and turn off the engine
Wait a few minutes for the oil to settle
Open the hood and locate the dipstick
Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean with a cloth or paper towel
Reinsert the dipstick fully
Pull it out again and check the oil level
Make sure the oil level is between the minimum and maximum marks
Check the oil color and consistency
Add the correct oil if the level is low
Recheck the level after adding oil
Close the hood securely
