Unplug the kettle and let it cool completely
Empty any remaining water
Fill the kettle with equal parts white vinegar and water
Boil the mixture
Turn off the kettle and let it sit for 15 to 30 minutes
Pour out the mixture
Rinse the kettle thoroughly with clean water
Boil fresh water once or twice and discard it
Wipe the outside with a damp cloth
Clean the lid and spout with a soft brush or cloth
Dry all parts completely before using again
