Check that the oven is connected to gas and electricity if required
Open the oven door
Locate the oven control knob
Push in the knob if your oven requires it
Turn the knob to the bake or temperature setting
If it has an igniter, wait for the burner to light
If it has a pilot light, make sure the pilot is lit
If it uses a match or lighter, follow the oven’s lighting instructions
Release the knob after the flame is established
Set the desired temperature
Close the oven door
Wait for the oven to preheat before placing food inside
